The following policies govern the conduct of visitors to the Gaelic Museum and the use of services described on this website. By visiting the museum or using this website, you agree to comply with these policies. Policies are reviewed annually and updated as necessary.
Code of Conduct
All visitors are expected to behave in a manner that is respectful of the museum's collections, staff, and other visitors. The following conduct is required:
- Treat all exhibits, artefacts, and displays with care; do not touch items unless explicitly invited to do so
- Maintain a quiet and respectful atmosphere in gallery spaces
- Follow all instructions given by museum staff
- Do not bring food or drink into gallery spaces (water in sealed bottles is permitted)
- Supervise children at all times
- Do not use flash photography or tripods without prior arrangement
- Switch mobile phones to silent mode in gallery spaces
- Report any damage or safety concerns to museum staff immediately
The museum reserves the right to ask any visitor who fails to comply with the code of conduct to leave the premises without refund.
Ticketing and Cancellations
- Advance booking
- Recommended for all visits; essential for guided tours, workshops, and group bookings.
- Cancellation (more than 48 hours before visit)
- Full refund available. Contact the museum directly to process.
- Cancellation (within 48 hours of visit)
- Non-refundable. Tickets may be rescheduled to a future date subject to availability.
- Group cancellation
- 14 days' notice required for a full refund. Cancellations within 14 days may incur a charge.
- No-show
- Tickets are non-refundable for no-shows. No rescheduling is available.
- Museum closure
- In the event of an unexpected closure, all pre-booked tickets will be refunded or rescheduled.
Photography Policy
- Personal photography is permitted in all permanent galleries unless otherwise indicated
- Flash photography is prohibited throughout the museum
- Tripods and monopods require prior written permission from museum management
- Photography may be restricted in certain temporary exhibitions for copyright reasons
- Commercial photography and filming require a separate permit and fee
- Photographs of other visitors must not be taken without their consent
- Images of the museum's collections may not be used for commercial purposes without written permission
Accessibility Policy
The museum is committed to providing an inclusive experience for all visitors. Accessibility provisions include full wheelchair access, large-print guides, audio-described tours, quiet hours, and assistance dog facilities. For specific accessibility requirements, visitors are encouraged to contact the museum at least 48 hours before their visit to ensure appropriate arrangements can be made.
Group Visit Policy
- Groups of 10 or more must book in advance (minimum 14 days' notice)
- A designated group coordinator must be identified at the time of booking
- Groups must arrive together and check in as a group
- Maximum group size for self-guided visits is 30 persons
- Groups larger than 30 must be split into sub-groups with separate entry times
- School groups must provide a teacher-to-student ratio of at least 1:10
Complaints Policy
All complaints are acknowledged within 2 working days and fully resolved within 10 working days. Complaints should be submitted in writing to [email protected] or via the contact form. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may escalate to the relevant consumer authority in Ireland (Competition and Consumer Protection Commission) or the UK (Citizens Advice).
